Roslin Atreides - Q&A

Out of all of the photos with your its me designs modeling that I took of you, which is your favorite and why?

In this photo I feel that I look classy and poised and I know that this is a very natural look for me. I have always posed like this in some way since I was little and it comes very naturally and comfortably to me. It is also one of my very favorite dresses from It’s Me Designs and one that makes me feel fabulous.

    What’s your background in modeling?

When and why did you get started? Until I started doing shoots with Minnaleah Photography in early 2015, I didn’t really have too much of a background in modeling; unless one counts being posed for pictures before dance recitals as a kid. I got started with Minnaleah because after YEARS of being told by mutual friends that she and I should meet to do photoshoots we finally did meet at the Florida Renaissance Festival in Deerfield Beach, FL & the rest is pretty much history.  We’ve very similar personalities and interests and I adore her style of shooting and the fact that she does not over process the photos and turn someone like me into a Cover Girl stick figure.

How would you describe your style?

My style is mostly gothic and girly with a bit of nerdiness mixed in. In a professional business setting I have to be subtle, so the jewelry and the colors mimic more my style than the actual clothes themselves. Outside of work I have my girly moments but I am generally rocking some sort of nerd t-shirt and jeans or feeling the goth vibe with black dresses and accessories to match.

What is fun and rewarding about modeling?

Being involved with a designer that you love, support and that mirrors your own personal style is the best thing that I have found from modeling. Depending on the shoot and the theme, sometimes you can become a whole other person and create your own little world and story for the outfit. Having a photographer that is just as quirky as you are helps too.

What do you dislike about modeling?

The only thing that can get tough with modeling is the long hours at events, especially at outside venues in the heat and stickiness. It comes with the territory of what we do, but I love Dawn and Minnaleah, so it’s worth it in the long run.

How do you prepare for a modeling shoot?

Most of the time there are lists, lists of lists and itineraries down to the hour. Bags are packed with different bras, make up, various accessories, sometimes props as well as a couple pairs of shoes.  Other times, I fly by the seat of my pants.

How would you describe working with the photographer?

FUN. Minnaleah is a joy to work with and you’re always laughing.  She gives great instructions and has the best ways to make you smile if you’re taking things a LITTLE too seriously.

What do you think it takes to be a model?

Can just anyone model? - I think anyone can be a model and that there isn’t or shouldn’t be any real standard for whether or not you can be a model. If you have the drive, personality and comfort level to be in front of a camera and/or a room full of strangers looking at you as you walk down a runway or doing a fashion shoot, you can model.

What is it like modeling for It’s Me Designs and Minnaleah Photography?

Pure fun! Being able to put on a dress, look at myself in the mirror and go “Oh Yes!” is the best feeling in the world.  The clothes that Dawn creates make me and the other models look and feel AMAZING. To be able to model clothes that not only suit my style but fit ME and my body type is a huge boost to my personal confidence. In combination with Minnaleah Photography, it is a blast. What is supposed to be a fitting some weekends turn into an impromptu photoshoot and because we all have so much in common, we just synch so nicely.
