About the Designer: Dawn Heisler
It's Me Designs, the Designer that Dares to Defy
It’s Me Designs was created by Dawn Heisler, an Artist by trade. She grew up in the Mid-West and developed a keen sense for design of women’s, men’s and children clothing, specifically creating a line of “Up-Cycled Vintage Wear”. Her designs range from Classic to the Eclectic and Macabre which all make a bold statement of one’s individuality. Her designs have also created special interest among musicians and other on-stage performers. One-of-a-kind items are also available to customers who wish to have specialized pieces made to fit their own personality
My first day of school, second grade. I see someone else wearing my new school out fit, NOOOO! I went home and threw mine in the trash. (to my mothers very surprised shock turned laughter just last year; "Did you really?") I believe it started there and even before. I refused to be like anyone else, look like anyone else, dress like anyone else. I have always been into anything creative, always wanted my own business. So when I lost my job about 8 years ago, I started playing around with fabrics. I had a borrowed sewing machine and ideas swimming
in my head. My closest artsy friend said to me, "I'm sick of my closet, here". "Too short, too long, needs pockets, BORING"........
Well, I have evolved since then in so many ways. And continue to grow every day. I have found my voice and it sings through my veins! What started as doing Indie Craft shows and designing for my friends has turned into a full fledgling business. I used to do all these shows as well as design and create by myself.
Now, I have a whole "staff" and management crew. I still do all the sewing, designing and creating, all by hand. Although all of my crew have been muses at one time or another. We are a creative family, they are my Village, my Tribe.
We have our photographer, makeup artist and model management Minnaleah. Who does so much more for us, including web design, logo design.......too much to say.
Then we have Noreen, our Creative Director, again, her "jobs" are too many to mention, and her husband Mitch who has been dubbed, "The Man in the Back". He does promo, music, show production etc etc LOL "Management" also model at times as well.
Then, I have the most incredible group of "models". They all are just real people with great personalities that shine. Be it on stage or in photos. We have all become family. We have so much fun no matter what we are doing! My Village has dubbed me the Designer Who Dares to Defy. We take that beyond the obvious, my clothing line, which is always Outside the Box and mostly One of a Kind.
I design for real people, my crew are all real people. Our models are all ages, all sizes, all lifestyles. Our intention is to break all the stereo types of the fashion industry and just be real people, creating clothing, for real people.
We do fashions shows, that are not your normal runway. They are entertaining, creative and interactive shows. We do photo shoots in public places where our love for each other, the ease and the fun of wearing my clothing shines brightly for all to see. We do flash mobs......LOL How incredible it is to see peoples reactions when we sit "dinning" at sidewalk cafes and my crew starts singing Disney karaoke from table to table! They are good too, all in perfect character :)
We have just begun our invasion to make clothing personal, edgy and fun. There will be lots more to come from It's Me Designs!
